CTIAR Code of Conduct

Standards of professional, respectful, and inclusive behavior for all CTIAR conferences, events, and activities.

Purpose & Scope

Approved on January 28, 2019, this Code of Conduct applies to all conferences, networking activities, online discussions, and related events organized by the Canadian Technology Institute for Academic Research (CTIAR).

CTIAR events aim to advance research, education, and responsible AI usage, while fostering inclusion, respect, and meaningful engagement among all participants.

Respect & Inclusion

CTIAR is committed to providing a respectful and inclusive environment. All participants are expected to behave courteously and professionally, regardless of:

  • Age, race, or ethnicity
  • Gender or sexual orientation
  • Physical appearance or differing abilities
  • Religious beliefs or personal background
  • Any other individual characteristic

Zero Tolerance Policy

CTIAR does not tolerate abusive, racist, sexist, homophobic, intimidating, or discriminatory behavior toward:

  • Participants and speakers
  • Organizers and student volunteers
  • Sponsors and conference staff
  • Local individuals or communities

Prohibited Conduct

Harassment of any form is strictly prohibited, including but not limited to:

  • Verbal abuse, bullying, or offensive remarks
  • Aggressive or intimidating behavior
  • Disruption of presentations or events
  • Unwelcome sexual attention
  • Inappropriate physical contact
  • Stalking or deliberate intimidation (online or in person)
  • Display of sexually explicit or racially insensitive materials
  • Encouraging or tolerating inappropriate conduct

Community Responsibility

All individuals, organizations, and entities attending CTIAR events are required to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Participants are expected to actively uphold these standards, discourage inappropriate behavior, and comply immediately if asked to cease any conduct that violates this code. Sponsors are also required to adhere to these standards.

CTIAR representatives are authorized to take appropriate action to prevent or address violations of this code, including issuing warnings, removing individuals from events temporarily or permanently, or contacting local law enforcement when necessary.

To report violations, please inform a CTIAR representative immediately or contact the CTIAR Executive Director or any CTIAR Officer. Complaints will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the Executive Council.

Serious violations may result in disciplinary actions, including termination of membership in accordance with Article VI, Section 6 of the CTIAR Bylaws.
